AIKEN, S.C. – The nationally 13th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team completed its three-game Peach Belt Conference sweep over Young Harris with a 14-10 game three win on Sunday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
Currently in the midst of a five-game winning streak, USC Aiken (20-5, 9-3 PBC) has now claimed six of its seven three-game series this season (Lincoln Memorial, Carson-Newman, Shepherd, Francis Marion, Flagler and Young Harris). The Pacers swept Lincoln Memorial, Shepherd, Flagler and Young Harris (10-12, 2-10 PBC).
The contest started with the two teams combining for 13 runs over the course of the first three innings. USC Aiken owned a 7-6 lead after the three-inning stretch.
USC Aiken as a team would go on to plate seven more runs in its four-run victory.
Two Pacers finished the game with three hits. Josh Miller (Chapin, S.C./Chapin HS) ended his efforts with a 3-for-5 performance with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Bill Gerstenslager (Solon, Ohio/Mercyhurst) was 3-for-5 in the game with three RBIs and one run scored. Gerstenslager doubled and homered in the Pacer win.
Four Pacers ended the game with two hits with Bryce Baur (Moncks Corner, S.C./Florence-Darlington Tech), Ryan Metzler (Glen Burnie, Md./Siena), John Fidanza (Prospect, Ky./Coastal Carolina) and Sean Miller (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding HS) each recording two hits. Metzler hit a dinger in the contest.
The Mountain Lions were led by Jack Morrow and David Atwood, who both had three hits each in the game.
USC Aiken overall out-hit the Mountain Lions, 17-15, in the contest.
Six Pacers saw the mound in the game with Wyatt Brown (Suwanee, Ga./Middle Georgia) improving to 3-1 on the year with his win. The Pacer starter pitched the first five innings.
Young Harris starter Justin Cooper suffered the loss in the game. He is now 2-4 on the season.
The Pacers will next welcome Chowan to the 'Bert for a two-game midweek series on Tuesday, March 19 (4 p.m.) and Wednesday, March 20 (6 p.m.). The Pacers are 13-0 all-time against Chowan.
