AUGUSTA, Ga.— A.J. Bowman and Garret Siler combined for 42 points on 18-for-22 shooting as #18 Augusta State (11-3, 6-1 PBC) earned revenge against visiting #7 USC Aiken (13-2, 7-1 PBC) 75-59 Monday night before a packed house at Christenberry Fieldhouse in Peach Belt Conference men’s basketball action. The Jaguars handed the Pacers first loss in league play and avenged a 70-67 loss at USCA on November 28.

USC Aiken jumped out to an early lead as Cody Ballard sandwiched a Chris Commons’ steal and dunk with two layups as the Pacers led 6-2. ASU responded with eight-straight points before USCA regained the lead 11-10 on a Job Casimir triple.

With Commons, the PBC’s leading scorer, on the bench in foul trouble, Augusta State closed the first half with a 26-8 run to take a commanding 36-19 halftime lead. Bowman knocked down 4-for-6 field goals and all four of his free throw attempts for 13 first-half points. Siler added eight points on 4-for-5 shooting as ASU held dominating margins in both points in the paint (24-6) and on the glass (20-11).

USC Aiken (10-4, 4-4 PBC) struggled for 40 minutes to find their range on Monday evening, tying the school’s NCAA-era mark for fewest points scored in a game in a tough 48-37 loss to rival Augusta State (10-4, 4-3 PBC) in women’s Peach Belt Conference basketball at Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Lady Pacers had their modest two-game winning streak halted.

Augusta State dealt the Lady Pacers their sixth-straight road loss in the series while the 37 points ties the school’s NCAA-era record for futility set on January 13, 1999 in an 86-37 defeat to USC Upstate. It is also the fewest points since the Lady Pacers put up 31 in a loss at Francis Marion on February 17, 1986.

The Lady Pacers hit their first two shots to open on a quick 5-0 run at the 18:43 mark. That was the end of good shooting, however, as USCA missed its next 11 shots and 19 of their next 20 to fall behind 19-9 with 3:43 left in the half.
