AUGUSTA, Ga. – The 2006-07 Augusta State’s men’s basketball team will be recognized prior to Saturday afternoon’s matchup with North Georgia at 4:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The 2006-07 squad, which tallied the second-most wins in school history, will receive its Peach Belt Conference championship rings in a pre-game ceremony.
The Jaguars posted a 24-7 overall mark last season and captured the PBC regular-season championship with a 14-2 record. Tyrekus “AJ” Bowman was named the PBC Player-of-the-Year.and an NABC All-American after leading the league in scoring at 20.5 ppg.
Dip Metress, in his third year as head coach, was named the PBC and South Atlantic Region Coach-of-the-Year by the NABC while center Garret Siler and forward Ben Madgen were named to the all-conference squad. In addition, Madgen was named PBC Freshman-of-the-Year.
During the season, the Jags received their first national ranking in 30 years and climbed as high as No. 8 in the nation. ASU finished the year ranked No. 18 in the country, the first season-ending national ranking the program’s history.
Currently in the midst of a three-game homestand, the 2007-08 edition of the Jags are riding a four-game winning streak, all in conference play. ASU stands at 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the PBC and is ranked No. 18 in the nation.
