FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- Devan Downey scored 28 points to lead
South Carolina to a 70-66 win over Arkansas.
Downey also added six steals to help the Gamecocks withstand a
big second half by Arkansas' Sonny Weems and avenge a 30-point loss
to the Razorbacks in last season's Southeastern Conference
tournament.
Arkansas trailed by as many as eight in the second half but tied
it with less than five minutes to go. Downey was then fouled
attempting a three-pointer and made two free throws to give the
Gamecocks the lead for good.
Weems scored 21 of his 28 points for Arkansas in the second
half.
