Pacer Baseball Season Underway

Aiken, SC-- Over the past three years, the USC Aiken baseball team has been ranked every week except two, maybe the ultimate respect the program has gotten during that time. This year, no exception.

Today was the first day the Pacers could hit the field as a team as they gear up for the season ahead. Plenty of holes to fill for coach Kenny Thomas with only two returning position players, Ken Raborn and Chad Jacobsen. While they lack experience there, they have plenty of it on the mound. Three starters return and they have plenty of depth behind them.

"Pitching is what we're going to live and die by, there's no question" said head coach Kenny Thomas. "We've got plenty of them. I feel as good about this pitching staff as I've ever done. How we've done at the end of the year, we'll just wait and see."

"We're going to be pretty good I think. People don't think after the rankings that we're not going to be good, I think we're going to surprise people and we're going to come out gunning." said pitcher Peden Rucker.

If that wasn't enough, the Pacers also find a familar face in the dugout with former Greenbrier grad and Pacer Nick Wandless returning as a coach. The brother of current Pacer Scott, Wandless is the all-time Division Two record holder for saves. Pacers open the season February 1st.
