AIKEN, S.C. – Junior Jeremy Fears has been named the Peach Belt Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Fears joins fellow junior Chris Commons as the first USC Aiken teammates to win the honor in the same season since 2003-04. Commons earned back-to-back Player of the Week honors November 26 and December 3.
Fears, a 6’5” guard from Chicago, Illinois, had a terrific week leading the Pacers to a pair of conference wins. He averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 steals per contest in victories over Francis Marion and Georgia Southwestern. Fears was especially effective from long range, hitting 9-of-17 threes.
In Wednesday’s 86-74 win at FMU, Fears hit five threes on his way to a game-high 26 points while adding six assists, five rebounds, and four steals. The junior followed that performance with 20 points in an 84-61 victory against Georgia Southwestern. Fears knocked down four threes in the first half and scored 16 points as USCA built a 47-30 halftime lead. He added six rebounds and three steals in the win.
