AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State’s Tyrekus “AJ” Bowman was named the Peach Belt Conference Player-of-the-Week Monday afternoon, according to an announcement from the league office.
A 6-5, 185-pound senior forward from Tignall, Ga., Bowman averaged 28.0 points and 12.0 rebounds over the last two games as the 12-ranked Jaguars posted a 1-1 record. He paced the Jaguars with 32 points -- one off his career high -- in an 89-75 loss at Tampa on Dec. 29. The Jags bounced back with the resumption of Peach Belt Conference play, taking down Clayton State 70-60 on Saturday, Jan. 5, behind a game-high 24 points from Bowman on 9-of-13 shooting.
Over the two games, Bowman shot 59.0 percent from the field and 33.0 percent from 3-point range. He also moved into 10th place on Augusta State’s all-time scoring list with 1,356 career points and is closing in on the top 10 in Peach Belt annals. His 24-point effort also marked his 30th consecutive game in double figures dating back to last season. In his last four games, he is averaging 25.8 ppg., shooting 60.6 percent from the field and has raised his scoring average from 16.5 to 20.2 ppg.
ASU (7-3, 2-1 PBC) travels to UNC Pembroke (6-4, 1-2 PBC) for a conference matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
