AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State Director of Athletics Clint Bryant announced Tuesday that he has accepted a letter of resignation from women’s head golf coach Laura Coble.

“We would like to sincerely thank Laura for all of her efforts and hard work in guiding our program for the past year and a half,” Bryant said. “We wish her the best in her future endeavors. Over the next few weeks, we will make a determination of our coaching situation for the Spring, 2008 semester. Our women’s team is coming off a very strong fall season and we’re confident that the transition to a new coach will be seamless.”

Coble took over as the head coach of the ASU women’s golf program on August 10, 2006. An Augusta native and Augusta State alum, Coble is perhaps the most prolific and highly-decorated women’s amateur golfer in the state of Georgia. A nine-time GSGA (Georgia State Golf Association) Player-of-the-Year, Coble spent three years on the University of Georgia women’s golf team from 1982-84 and earned a B.S. in education from then-Augusta College in 1987.

The ASU women’s golf program, in its seventh year of Division I competition, is currently ranked No. 41 in the nation by Golfweek magazine and No. 46 in the nation by Golfstat.

The Lady Jaguars begin their Spring, 2008 schedule on Feb. 17 at the Papa John’s Collegiate Championship in Miami Lakes, Fla.
