Gantt and Belcher headed to Columbia

South Carolina baseball coach Ray Tanner is a lucky man. Today the Gamecocks nabbed the two biggest pitching recruits in the CSRA. Greenbrier lefty Nolan Belcher has lost a grand total of one game in high school and despite his 5-foot-7inch frame is one of the best power pitchers in Georgia. His Greenbrier teams have won the last two 4A titles in Georgia thanks, in large part, to Belcher.

On the other side of the Savannah, Marty Gantt did it all for North Augusta. He was the offensive spark as the leadoff hitter for the Jackets and went 9-3 with a 1.33 ERA as a pitcher. Those numbers helped him become the first junior to ever be named South Carolina's Mr. Baseball.

The two hurlers will join forces on the Gamecock staff in 2009 and couldn't be more excited.

"I'm very excited," says Gantt. "I've played with Nolan before and I loike him a lot. He's a good player. He'll do his thing, I'll do mine and hopefully we'll go somewhere pretty far in college baseball."

"That would be pretty cool right there because Marty's a great player and it would be a lot of fun playing with him."
