Greenbrier football may forfeit games

EVANS,Ga---The main issue is the eligibility report that each school must submit to the Georgia High School Association for each student-athlete before a season starts.

In Greenbrier's case, 13 football players were omitted from that report. It was later found that two of those players were academically ineligible as well and the two games they participated in may be subject to forfeit.

Further, Columbia County superintendent Charles Nagle says that as many as 20 players on the junior varsity and varsity rosters did not have up-to-date physicals on file at the school. It is not thought at this point that these oversights were intentional but rather negligent on the part of the athletic administration. And it should be noted that Greenbrier self-reported the violations to the Georgia High School Association. The results of their investigation into the entire athletic department will be turned in to the GHSA tomorrow.
