Statement from Publix on out-of-date products

Food safety is a high priority at Publix. We're committed to having the best trained associates and the freshest quality products for our customers. Our managers are trained in food safety practices as approved by the Food Marketing Institute. In turn, they work daily with our associates to insure that these practices are shared throughout the store. Our associates are also trained on the importance of checking code dates as they rotate existing products on the shelves from back to front. Newly arriving products are stocked starting at the back. This process is called FIFO - first in, first out.

We also routinely inspect products on our shelves to reinforce the importance of monitoring code dates. Human error is usually the cause in not pulling a product by the correct date. Our goal is to work toward 100% accuracy when dealing with code dates. It is certainly our responsibility to pull products which have reached their sell-by date. However, if a customer ever finds an out of date product, we will provide a full refund or replace that product.
