AUGUSTA, Ga.---Nationwide, the price of gasoline has gone up about 12 cents a gallon in the past couple of weeks, according to the Lundberg Survey.

The average for regular is now about $1.78/gal.

However, it's cheaper than that around here, and Georgia prices, which had been rising, have dropped in some places now that the new state gas tax reduction has kicked in.

Gas prices had been falling for six months.

The city budget is in the black for every penny below $2.50 we as taxpayers pay for gas. That was the amount estimated for the preparation of the 2009 budget. Pray it keeps going for at least a few more months.
