ATLANTA (AP) -- Gasoline prices are surging again across Georgia despite reports that Hurricane Ike inflicted minimal damage to oil installations on the Texas coast.

According to AAA's fuel gauge report, the average statewide price for regular unleaded is $4.16 a gallon. That's a 16 cent increase from Sunday.

The national average for regular is $3.84 a gallon.

Prices also were higher for other motor fuels. Midgrade averaged almost $4.37 -- up about 14 cents.

Premium fuel jumped 15 cents overnight to an average of $4.56 a gallon.

The whole gas "crisis" is bogus. The gas/oil companies look for an excuse to raise prices and hell is going to be full of people consumed with greed.

I have never been more outraged in my life. Ga and SC IS paying the most for gas than any other state in America. More than New York And Califonia. Someone needs to hear us and do something Maybe CNN needs to hear this.

i'm a college student and i drive to school and work everyday. gas is 4.39 a gallon for regular gas. and it seems i have to full up my car at least twice a week to get where i have to go. the economy is so screwed now my parents have to take furlow days at work which means they lose a day of pay every month so every year we will be short about $1700

This is nothing but blatant, orchestrated price gouging, even the press is in on it. before Ike hit Texas I heard a reporter say that power shutdowns would have a devastating effect on refinery production. Refineries recoup the cost of handling surplus, unusable byproduct by using the exothermic process to produce steam which they use to generate power, in fact, some of them sell power into the grid...what a shameless scam.
