AUGUSTA -- In this Smart Heart report, we're teaming up with University Hospital to talk about Heart Month.

Today, February 4th is National Wear Red Day to raise awareness about heart disease, heart attack and stroke.

Doctor Janet Utz, a cardiologist, says says most women are not aware they are at as great of a risk as they are. She says one in three women will die from cardiovascular disease.

Doctor Utz says more women and men will die from heart disease, then all the cancers combined.

"So we really need to look at this as a huge problem. But one of the good things is, we can control it by addressing risk factors and other things and getting back to preventing disease," she said.

For more on Heart Month, keep this page bookmarked all February long.
