Smart Heart: It's not too late to start exercising.

In this edition of "Smart Heart" we're teaming up with University Hospital to show you that it's not too late to start exercising. That's one of the best ways to keep your cardiovascular system flowing smoothly.

A group at University Hospital created the Tri University group last year. It includes people who haven't exercised in years... or at all.

University employees, Health Central members and others make up the group. Right now, they're training for the Langley Pond Sprint Triathlon. It's being held this Saturday, April 24th.

Brian Patterson is the coordinator for the Tri University group. He says the triathalon will be a first for every member.

"One of the athletes calls it "spud to stud." So they're couch potatoes or some people have a little experience with running. Some are cyclists. But no one in the group has ever done a swim, bike and run event at one time."

The sprint triathlon is the shortest triathlon. The event at Langley Pond will also involve an International distance. That includes a 15-hundred mile swim, 24-mile bike ride and 6-point-2 mile run.
