They'll catch just about any kids eye - happy meals. Fast food restaurants are advertising all kinds of deals to get you to stop. One offers a $.99 kids meal with the purchase of an adult meal. Kim Beavers from our “Eating Well with Kim” segment says there are other options.

"They're becoming more common, fruit cups, veggie sticks instead of fries. Or you can take fruit with you in the car so you're kids aren't starving and you feel the need to stop by fast food restaurants," says Kim Beaver of University Hospital.

It's best to avoid fast foods -- but if you do stop at a Mcdonalds or Burger King, check for substitutions. Most of them offer milk, fruit, veggie sticks and other things. For yourself, you'll want to plan out your meals by the week and grocery shop according to your plan.
