ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia Tech has received a $3.5 million federal grant to lead a consortium of colleges and universities in Georgia, Florida and Alabama to research how to fix critical transportation issues.
The grant is part of $77 million in awards announced by U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on Tuesday. Georgia Tech will work with Florida International University in Miami, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the University of Georgia, Georgia Southern University and others on the project.
The consortium is one of 22 university transportation centers to get grants from the U.S. Transportation Department. The centers work to find solutions to the transportation problems that impact their communities and affect the nation's transportation system.
