BURKE CTY., Ga. -- The Burke County School System is preparing to say goodbye to their superintendent.
Linda Bailey announced her plans to retire at the end of the school year Tuesday night. She has been working in education for 35 years. She took over as superintendent in January 2006 when Doug Day stepped down.
Bailey's last day will be June 1, 2012.
The Burke County Board of Education will discuss the superintendent selection process during its annual retreat on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28.
"We can verify that we are committed to an open and transparent process designed to select the overall best candidate for the job from among what we expect to be a field of exceptional applicants," said James D. Hyder Jr., general counsel for Burke County Public Schools, in an email.
