ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Police are increasing patrols of uniformed and undercover police officers at the campuses of Georgia Tech and the Atlanta University Center after recent assaults and robberies targeting college students.
Atlanta Police Chief Richard Pennington says that the department will put four uniformed officers at the AUC and four more at Georgia Tech. The officers will be paid overtime and work overnight shifts. The department will reevaluate the situation after 30 days.
The new strategy comes after a spate of crimes on campuses, including the shooting of a student at Morehouse College early Tuesday morning as he walked home from the college library. The student has been released from a hospital and is recovering from a gunshot wound in the arm.
