NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. --- A 13-year-old Paul Knox Middle School student has told North Augusta investigators that another 13-year-old student gave her Xanax pills at school.

Investigators say the student showed up at school with her stepdad's medication in a jewelry box last Thursday (November 6), and now she's in trouble with the law.

Investigators say the 13-year-old student admitted she gave the other student 3 Xanax pills. Those pills are anti-panic pills. By the end of the day, the student who took the pills ended up in the hospital.

The 13-year-old who took the pills says the other student gave her the pills and she took 16 of them throughout that one day. She also says she mixed the pills with wine.

"I'm terrified," says Leah McKinney, mom and PTA president at Paul Knox. "Yeah, it is a very big worry."

Her son is in 8th grade at the school, but she says she didn't know of the problem until today. "It's scary, because you hope that as a parent you've done your lessons well," she says.

Both of the 13-year-olds are likely going to be facing charges from North Augusta Public Safety. "I think if you are going to have medicine, you have to protect them, just because their curiosity is out there," says Leah.

News 12 learned those students may have been expelled from the school already. The school will not confirm that, but they do have a zero-tolerance drug policy. They tell News 12 if students are caught with drugs on school property, it results in an immediate expulsion. That expulsion would have to go to the board for a final decision, we're told.

Now, Leah and others like her will be having a talk with their kids. "On the way home, I'm going to ask him if he knows anything about it and knows that he can always come to us," says Leah.

The PTA president is now looking to attack the problem. "What I do with my son this afternoon might work with my son, but it might not be the best thing for everybody," says Leah. So, she's researching. "What would be the best for us to do as a unit, as a school."

Right now, it's a school that's keeping quiet, but there's Leah -- and other parents -- who are starting to take action. "The voice inside, if it says no, listen to it and don't do it," says Leah.

News 12 learned from investigators that they will be meeting tomorrow morning with the 13-year-old who handed out the pills for free at the school. Also in attendance at that meeting will be her legal council. Investigators say they have not talked to the 13-year-old who took the pills yet. We do know charges are not expected to be placed against the stepfather or mother of the girl who handed out the pills.

Investigators are having a tough time putting this investigation together because they are seeing a contradiction in several stories. We also are told there may be up to 6 people who got pills from the girl, but right now, no one knows how many pills were given out to the students, or taken from the stepdad.

News 12 is continuing to follow this story and will update you as soon as news breaks.

You cant't but all the blame on the student who brought the pills to school yes she was wrong but the girl that took the pills have a mind of her own I dont think she should be charged for that because she didn't make the girl take the pills she choose to.. And also if the girl who took the pills should also be carged for taking drugs while at school.. And people need to get their facts correct before it is all released to anyone.IF GOING TO CHARGE ONE FOR BRING THE PILLS TO SCHOOL AND GIVIG THEM AWAY THAN U SHOULD CHARGE THE ONE WHO TOOK THE PILLS BE!!!!!!!!!!!! Because we know that where not supposed to have any pills at school so they both soould get charge not just one And u also no what is expected of you we sould not have to be supervised to know right from wrong next time just make better decision.. WHAT IS OUR SAYING FOR PKMS PATRIOT PRIDE IS ON THE RISE WELL THAT IS NOT PATRIOT PRIDE SO WE NEED TO PRACTICE WHAT WE SAY EACH AN EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I know what really happened. That is not true at all. They need to really get the facts straight. No one should be alarmed by that because thats not what I happened. She begged her for the pills. I know she shouldn't have brought them. But how many times have you done a stupid thing for a friend? It really makes me mad, this has happened way too much for our school. Paul Knox is a great school. That girl is just crazy in her mind. Things she has done in the past just proves it.

This whole problem is getting BLOWN into something its not by the MEDIA!! The news says things that arent true and make both girls look like scum. They made mistakes like EVERYONE does, but i dont think its fair to JUDGE THEM OR THE SCHOOL on this, just grow up, and keep your noses out of peoples buisness and before you go put something on TV get the FACTS dont play things by EAR!!!

I think it's a real shame that NEWS 12 will hide in the bushes after being asked to leave school property just to get a shot of the school. This is hard on the ENTIRE School. Both of these girls have friends that are devestated by their actions. These are children in trouble not a ratings grab! I don't think you have all of the facts in this case and you should verify facts before you broadcast anything at all. You should be ashamed!

This is a sad situation! The girls are both changed forever because of some very bad decisions! The school administration at PK has a blind eye to alot of what goes on at that school. I for one will be praying for both girls involved and their families. WAKE UP MRS SMITH & Clean up your school. I went there 20 years ago and it was nothing like what you see in the press now. Thank goodness my kids will be out of there next year.

this whole story puts all the blame on the kid who handed out the pills. I know for a fact that is not the case. She did not give the other girl 16 pills, she only gave her 3 and she did not give anyone else pills. And she was not responsible for the girl that was taken to the hospital drinking wine, that was after school at someone else's house. Yes the girl who hande out the 3 pils was in the wrong, but so was the child who took them from her. She is the one who stayed on the other child for weeks, begging her to bring the pills to school. So get the entire story before you report the crap that you do.
