AUGUSTA, Ga---The principal at Augusta's Gracewood elementary school has resigned.

Superintendent Dr. Dana Bedden was expected to get the resignation letter late Friday afternoon.

Principal Sharon McAlevy was in her first year at Gracewood. She left Spirit Creek middle school last year for Gracewood.

McAlevy has been implicated in a sex scandal investigation from her time at Spirit Creek.

Two teachers and a former Board of Education police officer have also been implicated. That officer was fired from his job as a Richmond County deputy for not being upfront about the investigation when he was hired by the Sheriff.

An attorney for McAlevy says stress from the investigation has taken a toll on her and her family.

The district plans to bring in a retired adminstrator to take over at Gracewood.

The investigation to possible sex taking place at Spirit Creek is still open. At least two more teachers could be involved.
