AUGUSTA, Ga. - Helen Masters' granddaughter goes to Langford Middle School. But she didn't go to school Monday because of threats.

"This thing that's going on over there is like a gang. If you're in it--everything's okay, but if you get out of it, that's when they start bullying you," said Masters.

Master's granddaughter says a group of ten girls is terrorizing students at Langford. The granddaughter didn't want to be identified.

"They've just been threatening people and throwing stuff at them and harassing them," said the granddaughter, "I'm just afraid something bad'll happen."

The principal at Langford said, "We don't have any bullying going on here."

The granddaughter says "that's not true" and the bullying escalated when she saw a threat on myspace.com--it was another Langford student threatening to beat the granddaughter up on Monday.

"They're not going to get caught. I know they're not. They're too sneaky and they twist people's words around and make it seem like they didn't do anything," said the granddaughter.

We showed the on-line threat to Lieutenant James Young. He says it does qualify as bullying and it's worth looking into.

"One thing you don't want to do if there's some tensions brewing here--you don't let it escalate--don't let it get to a point where something bad is going to happen or is getting ready to happen before you try to intervene or take some corrective action."

The student says until then--Langford students have to watch their backs at school and on-line.

According to Lt. James Young, MySpace threats are treated just like email threats. Depending on the severity, they can land you in jail under the terrorist threats statue.

Contact the lawmakers today-- Rep. Carolyn Hugley is looking at our current laws and the fact that schools across GA are ignoring this.

Our school system has a bullying clause. It states that a child shall not be bullied. If you bully then you will be suspended from school. It does not allow harrassment either. Bullying happens everywhere and for the Principal to say it is not in her school means eyes are closed!

Bullying definitely does happen at Langford Middle School. Some students (especially female students) attempt to intimidate other students they believe are weak or vulnerable. I have to talk with my daughter everyday about how to deal with people disliking her and making unprovoked comments towards her. I know at least two students who left Langford because of bullying. As parents, we pay taxes for our children to receive a quality public education. We should not have to pay taxes and send our children to private school. I belive that the teachers and administrators are looking at this as child's play when it is not. Yes, this is Langford Middle School in Augusta. Does anyone know how to address this without making things tougher on the victims? Suspension is not the answer.

they should suspend any and every bully in the schools.

This bullying really does happen to these kids. I don't know about this Middle School but my daughter was bullied at her Middle School. (Seago) She is now in High School and it has happened there too. I went to the principal last year and got it taken care of immediately. When you have principals who say it does not happen in their school rather than investigate the situation and take care of it immediately, that is where someone ends up hurt, and it is the fault of the leaders who do not take it serious and get those responsible out of the school. My daughter would come home crying, upset, and miserable. No child should ever have to go through something like this when they are at school to learn. Please listen to this child and see her through this problem! JMK

It's not right that the youngones can't go to school and feel self.I would just like to let the principal know that its there it's in all of the school the bullying the thteats and the harassing I just don't thank it's right that kids need to have to watch there backs. I would like to say good luck with this

The fact that the principal says that "there isn't ANY bullying going on" tells me that he's either covering up or completely ignorant to what is going on at his school. He can't make a blanket-statement like that. I know that if bullying is going on at the elementary school my children attend, it must be happening in the middle schools as well. Just because they aren't doing it in front of you, does not mean it isn't happening.
