AIKEN, S.C.---Vandals disrupted the start of school this morning in Aiken County. Sometime over the weekend, they slashed 20 tires on more than ten school buses.

Students on four different bus routes were late to school this morning because of it.

Students at Aiken Middle, Chukker Creek Elementary, East Aiken Elementary, Kennedy Middle, Millbrook Elementary, Oakwood-Windsor Elementary, and South Aiken High were affected.

The vandalism, which the Aiken Department of Public Safety is investigating, will end up costing up to $9000.

This is part 2 of the other E-mail. I think the school system needs to wake up and stop punishing the parents for their childrens mistakes. I feel that if the children had a way of paying for their mistakes they would learn from them.Aiken County jumps the gun to suspend or after school detention ,wow what a punishment ,they get to hang around their friends longer. Suspension is like vacation to these kids ,not punishment. Most parents work and can not be there to enforce the real reason they are home and other parents just do not care. Futhermore, why does Aiken County waste so much time with the school rules . For instance, First,Second,Third offense and so on,if they can kick you off at anytime anyway???? Why not just send out a letter saying the school is always right and what we say goes and cut all the Bullsh*t. The school is set up to run the parents, not to learn. I havre printed up over 1000 flyers and will be at grocery stores and all events to get my views across to parents.

I could not imagine why someone would do something like that.Other than the fact of the Aiken County Bus Transportation is a joke ! When my daughter was kicked off the bus for the remainder of the year along with 20 other students, but yet the families go in front of this board of transportation and automatically suspended from the bus. The thing that does not make any sense is why even bother if they do not care to hear the students side. How can they group students for apparently talking and suspend them? The Board continued to say that they can not say if she was part of this group or not ,but because I represented my daughter in this matter ,they saw it as being defiant against the board .So the next time WRDW or the school system begins to wonder why this sort of thing happens, look back at the parents that actually pay the price for the students actions. Maybe instead of suspension, I bet if on Saturdays those buses could use a good cleaning from these disrespectful children.
