ATLANTA (AP) -- The Georgia Senate is expected to vote on a bill that would pave the way to privatize the state's aviation services.
State lawmakers are scheduled to take up Senate Bill 339 on Tuesday. The legislation follows a recommendation from Gov. Nathan Deal that he says is part of an effort to make state government more efficient by eliminating or consolidating some agencies.
Sponsored by Republican Sen. Butch Miller of Gainesville, the proposal would transfer aircraft previously under the authority of the Department of Natural Resources and the State Forestry Commission back to those agencies. It would also look to privatize the state's aviation services and direct the authority to sell the state's aircraft currently being used for passenger flights.
