AUGUSTA---This year's James Brown Toy Giveaway is being called one of the biggest ever.

"Wow," exclaimed children at the annual James Brown Toy Give Away.

Kids were literally weighed down with gifts.

"I got a big ol' truck," said Tracey Dixon.

There were face-painting stations, life size comic book characters, and last minute chances to whisper a wish in Santa's ear.

"This is a blessing," said parent Stephanie Franks. "A blessing from the Lord. I'm telling you."

Stephanie says she and her kids were expecting a blue Christmas.

"My children have been very sick," said Stephanie. "Mom hasn't been able to go to work. So they've had nothing."

"They probably would not have had anything to open for Christmas," said Stephanie. "If it was not for this."

Little Tracey is counting his blessings.

"We never got toys like this," said Tracey. "Because my momma had no money."

"Because the kids are here and I'm running around," said organizer Deanna Brown. "I don't have time to cry."

The Brown family gave toys to more than 500 people.

"It's the most toys we've ever had," said Rev. Al Sharpton. "It's the most people we've ever had."

Sharpton points to a tough economy.

"This is really needed. You're not talking about people in some cases getting extra toys. Some of these kids will get the only toy or the only two or three toys that they will get."

"As long as these kids walk out of here happy," said Deanna. "That's all I'm concerned about."

"My favorite part is when I get toys and my mom will let me open them," cried Tracey. "But she won't let me open them."

She won't let him until Christmas.

People started lining up as early as 7am. The official count topped out at 540 people.
