Barry Bostic has walked the halls at Jefferson County hundreds of times and every time, he thinks the same thing when he walks by the pictures of the football program's greatest players.
"Basically, I've just been looking at these guys, thinking about it every day of just getting a chance and maybe my name being up there in the future," said Bostic.
That just may happen. After a stellar four-year career, including 39 touchdowns in his senior season alone, Bostic is off to play for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
"Since his freshman year, he has given himself a direction and a path that he wanted to go," said Jefferson County head coach J.B. Arnold. "And by doing that, he set himself up to go to Georgia Tech."
But Bostic isn't waiting until the fall to make an impact. Instead, he's off to Tech next week, to begin working out with the team. That meant graduating from high school early -- which was no easy feat.
"It was real tough. I had to take more classes and things like that." said Bostic. "My final semester of high school, I couldn't take weight training so coach Arnold joked with me about it but I couldn't take weight training if I was going to graduate early."
"As far as progress, he came in skinny and unfortunately, he's leaving skinny too so we like to make fun of that," said Arnold. "But we constantly pick at him about his size but what you don't see about Barry is the size of his heart and the size of his ability to be the best that he can be."
Bostic will get chances to play quarterback or a-back once spring ball begins for the Jackets, which is just fine with him. All he wants is the opportunity. That and a Georgia Tech win tonight in the Orange Bowl. So what's his prediction?
"31-17, in Tech's favor."
Said like a true Yellow Jacket.
