Martinez, Ga--Pretty much all year Lakeside has been on top of the heap. Just one loss at the hands of Hephzibah, the panthers are having a season to remember. They're also hoping that season will continue a little while longer.
Panthers gearing up for a big game against Westside Macon in the second round of the 4-A playoffs. While it's offense that usually puts the people in the seats, the Lakeside defense has put the wins on the board. Seven shutouts including four in a row, including a shutout of Statesboro a week ago. These guys take plenty of pride in playing a tenacious, attacking defense.
"We are very confident going into this next game" said senior Alan Marionneaux "We feel that if we come out and play the best of our abilities and we work hard, then we're the only team that can beat us if we hurt ourselves."
"They're just a reflection of the entire defensive coaching staff." said coach Jody Grooms "They've been on those guys since day one about playing fast and playing aggressive and playing with a purpose and they bought into it and they've kind of taken on that personna."
Panther defense is one of the best in the state, matter of fact, second and are giving up less then four points a ball game this year
