AUGUSTA---In a demonstration of the Little Buddy Child Tracker, a green box shown on a computer screen is an example of an area a parent can set to keep tabs on a child via GPS.

"Especially with the high rate of kidnappings and everything child abductions right now, it's a very good thing to have," said Diana Medina of Best Buy.

The GPS device is made by Insignia and sold at Best Buy. It will send you an instant email, text, or phone call alert when the person you're watching out for leaves that set area.

"You can set up perimeters, boundaries you don't want your child to go out of," adds Medina. "You can set it up to say what times your kids should be at school."

An idea Kristin Cathey likes for 6-month-old Hadley.

"It's small, you can keep it on you, and it's good that it will call your cell phone, that's good," said Cathey. "You don't have to worry about anybody taking your baby."

But instead of a baby, Shelia Brown thought of using it on her father, ho had Alzheimer's disease.

"My dad became my child, my fourth child, and I would absolutely want to know where he is," she said.

But questions of privacy will naturally come up.

"I would use it on my husband," admitted Cathey.

Said Medina: "That part, I don't agree with, but for a child or an elderly patient, I think they would be an excellent candidate for it."

"I don't think of that," Brown adds. "My first concern is my father's safety."
