ATLANTA (GA) – The Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR), Office of Child Support Services (OCSS) would like to alert the public of a phishing e-mail scam that is being sent to some EPPICard debit cardholders. Phishing is a type of scam designed to steal an individual's personal information. OCSS does not request information such as social security numbers, card numbers or PIN numbers via e-mail from EPPICardholders. We ask our customers not to respond to email requests for this information. Please see the Protect Yourself link on www.eppicard.com for ways of avoiding identity theft. Being informed is your best defense.

“We believe that being proactive is in our customer’s best interest,” says OCSS Director Keith Horton. “It is important that the public is aware of this scheme which takes money out of the hands of deserving Georgian citizens.”

ACS State and Local Solutions is reporting that customers have been receiving these phishing e-mails throughout the country; however none are currently reported in Georgia. If you believe your card account has been compromised, please call the number on the back of your EPPICard and speak to a customer service representative (if we have the number may be good to include in the release as well).

OCSS manages more than 410,000 cases. During fiscal year 2007, more than $651 million was collected and distributed to Georgia’s families.

I dont know why you all are so unhappy with the card.....I called the phone # on the card and talked to a real person....I use the web site on the card and see all transaction and balance....If you call to cheak your balance you get charged .25 cents oooooo a whole quarter....The web site is free....Libraries have free access to computers...The eppi card web site works...Really...Sorry to read about your losses...good luck in the future....

I think the eppi card is great...I go on line see my balance...I even see what the money is spent on...At first I called the card to hear my balance it told me I was charged .25cents I never called again...I get my child support faster this way than I ever did before...The card is all about the cashless society...One day no more cash....All plastic...No cash to worry about.......This card is the best way for child support...

want to know how much he owe me

Posted by: KELLY Location: HINESVILLE GA on Jun 18, 2009 at 01:09 PM
WHAT GETS ME IS BEING CHARGED A FEE OF .25 CENTS TO CALL FOR MY BALANCE. IT TAKES 2 TO 3 DAYS SOMETIMES FOR MY MONEY TO BE POSTED AND THE ONLY WAY FOR ME TO KNOW IF ITS THERE IS TO CALL. THIS IS MONEY I NEED TO FEED MY KIDS AND THE STATE GETS PROBABLY 2.00 A WEEK FROM ME CALLING TO TRY TO SEE IF THE MONEY IS THERE. WELL TIMES MY 2.00 BY THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE CHILD SUPPORT. WHEN MY CHECKS WERE MAILED I GOT THE MONEY MORE CONSISTANTLY AND I DIDNT GET CHARGED TO CALL. I THINK THE WHOLE THING IS OUTRAGEOUS. BUT WHAT CAN WE AS JUST REGULAR PEOPLE DO ABOUT IT? ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING!!!!!

i feel as if i'm being shortened on my child support i cant stand this card had i knew why they sent a paper about a bank account i would have filled it out now i'm suck with this card 25 cents after 4 calls to check on your money is crazy then you cant talk to live operater when you have a problem not to mention cash and/or checks will always be better that this any day

Posted by: Shonda Location: Blakely, Georgia on May 30, 2009 at 05:45 PM
When the child support has processed your money and the eppic card usually put you money on the card the next business day by 10:00 A.M. why did that change and they need to go ahead and if your money be process by child support on a Friday they need to go on ahead and put your money on your card then you have things to get for the kids and they want to go places but can not go because the people that work with eppic card takes there time putting the money on the card but they want there money on time now what kind of business is that I be needing my kids money when child support process it and they need to start putting the money on the card the same day kids need things and that is what the money if for because my kids need things.

i personally think its a rip off because that money thats posted to your card is there for you kids and not for the state. its also pretty said that everytime you call your card and check the balance on it, the charge you 25 cents, you know i would be happier if i could go back the old way. wal-mart charges me 3.00 to cash my check and nothing else. you all in the state who thought of this idea was only thinking about youself because mothers like me in this day in age r struggling and trying to make ends meet and you the govt. that u r , still manage to take money away from us. isn,t that funny find you payback another way leave r lids money or only income alone.

THE ONLY WAY TO SPEAK TO A LIVE PERSON IS TO SELECT THE OPTION OF A LOST/STOLEN CARD! ALSO IF YOU GET A TEXT SAYING TO CALL SOMEONE, DONT! JUST CALL THE NUMBE RON BACK AND SEE WHAT THEY WILL SAY FIRST! WHAT I DO, AS SOON AS MY MONEY HIT, IM OFF TO THE BANK TAKING EVERYTHING OFF AND DEPOSITING IT INTO MY BANK ACCOUNT! ALSO, NEVER USE YOUR CARD IF YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING TO RETURN SOMETHING, ESPECIALLY ONLINE ORDERS! YOU DONT WANT NOBODY HAVING INFO TO YOUR CARD EXCEPT THE EPPI PEOPLE AND YOU!!!

I never wanted the eppicard but recieved it through the state I had my card cancelled a month ago and have been awaiting another it is impossible to contact the company and I have yet to hear from them , I f I had a choice I would not be dealing with eppicard again Its NOT worth the time

Posted by: Maya Location: Illinois on Apr 5, 2009 at 11:35 AM
I think the state should not charge people who receive child support via an EPPIC card any fees, This is not a government hand out this is our money and we deserve to receive it in any method convenient to us. Paper checks should be mailed to those who think it's the best option for them. The state should stop trying to make those who receive child support payments pay extra fees like the 35 cent per call, and the 5.00 dollar replacement fee.

I got scam with this email and the way their system is set up it looks just like the eppi system. My money was taken out of my account and when I contact the number on the back I told them I had not taken the money out of my account and I had been scam. Well guess what after two weeks and their sorry investigation they told me it was my fault and that I answer the email and there is noting they could do about it and i was pretty much screw. It they new that someone was sending these bogus emails it is their job to send letters to each and everyone of us that did not happen. Fron that point on I have been taken every penny out of my account. I think that this eppi card is a screw up and I think the child support looking into the bank they have doing this for us. The eppi company and the people working for them do not give a damn about us and just think they are working for us. We are paying them for this service. SAD!

Posted by: kesha Location: georgia on Mar 2, 2009 at 04:42 PM
WHY IS IT WHEN EPPIC CARD disqulify your card for investigation, you can't get anything in writing supporting what they are telling as to why you card is suspened

Seems to me that these states using these debit cards for child support should do away with them and send our child support checks in the mail. Yes it may be more convient in some areas to have this card but from all that I have just read I would much rather have mine in a form of a check. I sure can do without the fees and charges required w/ using a debit card. Thank God I have not been scamed but for those of you that have I would demand that Mastercard or the associating bank pay for what has been stolen from you.

On Christmas Eve I went to pick up my kids layaway and my card was declined.I know the money was on the card because I called that morning,So I called the Customer Support number and someone had charged over $100.00 in a matter of minutes and not to mention they have been taking money off of my card for the past 2 weeks. I had to call 3 different companies and their still more that I have not been able to get in touch with. I really think these people should be ashamed of themselves. Stealing money from our kids. If it was not for my family my kids Christmas would not have been good.

People have nothing better to do than try and steal money from our children. it is bad enough that women have a hard time collecting the money from some fathers in the first place, and then someone comes along and tries to still it.

Why hasn't my child support been posted? I normally get it on the 10th.

I have had my eppi card for the last three years and now have found out someone else has been taking my daughters chid support.. some where in florida they are spending money that belongs to my daughter and getting away with it.. I have filled out all paperwork I was supposed to and have gotten denied.. and when asked who can I speak with no one knows.. how does that possible??? And for the person who wrote in that works for eppi card we are very carful with our information at all times but when things like this happens and eppicard has no one to talk to about the problem I dont think its just about thwe informatuion anymorew its about fraud and stealing from inocent people. How can you defend that...

Posted by: jason Location: las vegas on Dec 1, 2008 at 12:55 PM
There is also a scam by Eppicard themselves where Eppicard takes money out of your account listed as a debit adjustment and give you the runaround so you can't get it back. Eppicard is possibly stealing more money than any third party scams.

So what if I've fell in the scam what should I do. PLEASE HELP ME

Okay, enough already!!! I have filed complaints with every agency out there. If I dont get a response in the next week I am going to initiate a class action law suit. I believe with all the different states that issue Eppicards to child support recipients and unemployment benefits, there will be enough people to do this. I have done extensive research on this company. Card holders have been getting ripped off for quite some time now and claims are almost always denied. Not to mention if you check out the FDIC website you can find a letter from the Vice President and Senior Corporate Counsel of ACS State and Local Solutions dated November 5, 2005, confirming the fact that our funds are insured. Please email me at annatst@gmail.com

My Eppicard was due to expire in 2 weeks, & I was worried that I wouldn't have access to the funds in my account, but everytime I tried to call the number on back of the card, there was not an opition to talk to anyone, was all automated. So when I got an email from them that same week saying that unless I changed my password, I would not be able to use the Eppicard or site, I changed my password. I did not give my social or any other information, I just thought they were updating my stuff since I was due to expire. I was taken for $725. They left $2 in my account. I called & it took me from mid-May when I was scammed until Sept. 2nd to get the paperwork saying I was frauded. I sent it the same day, & just got a letter saying they denied my claim today. I am LIVID! This was not my fault, how can they get away with doing this to this many of us? I would like to hear from anyone who actually GOT their money back. viscuso5@windstream.net. We need to stick together & keep on these people!

I was taken for $1500. I also recvd a text message on my phone. I had just arrived in Seattle after spending all summer in Alaska when I found out my money had been stolen. I called eppicard that day and sent in the appropriate claim form to ACS only to get a letter denying my claim. What should I do?

I two was a victim of the eppicard scam on May 30, 2008. i contacted Eppicard right away for them to tell me I will receive papers in the mail to submit my dispute. I completed the dispute information and submitted to eppicard to find out I will receive a decision in the mail by 120 days. Well Guess What? I received a letter in the mail on June 22, 2008 letting me know my claim has been denied eventhough I provided proof I was in Orlando, Florida when the card was used in Labre, Hollywood. I have made numerous attempts to contact eppicard to no avail they have told me thats the final decision and I may contact the Police. Can someone please help?

Posted by: JEN on Jun 25, 2008 at 11:58 AM
The scam is a horrible, horrible thing, however...for them to take your funds, you had to provide them with your personal information!

Posted by: LIZ Location: PA on Jun 23, 2008 at 03:24 PM
I just wanted to say that I am a victim of this scam. I am in PA and my card information was used on a fake card at an ATM in Chicago! My claim to Eppicard and ACS was also denied. How utterly rediculous! Every other bank/financial institution in the country replaces funds taken fraudulently from their customers. EPPICARD is a joke. The ACS customer account service is a joke and honestly no one wants to hear from us. However, I say don't give up!! Contact the issuing bank on the back of your card and complain! Contact Visa or Mastercard (depending on the logo on your card) and complain! I did exactly that as well as get my state representative involved. We are being screwed more ways than one and I for one am not gonna just sit and take it! Neither should anyone else. Good luck and keep complaining....Someone WILL listen.

My son is the victim not once but twice, first from an ATM machine in Spain that retrieved his child support and then from the system that denied him reimbursement. Regardless the amount stolen all child support children need their money. Also, I have attempted to go to the website, wrong site and the one that would probably help is under construction. Please consider paper checks or direct deposit from an account a client already uses.

Posted by: victim Location: MS on Jun 22, 2008 at 11:03 PM
I was a victim also and have been denied. They told me to call the merchant. When something goes to Mexico and I can't even talk spainish how in the hell do they think I can explain? This system is pityful. Anyone that can help please let me know.

I have just attempted to go onto to the eppicard website (www.eppicard.com) and I am running into a completely different website. It states that the site is currently under construction. I am the brother of an Eppicard victim. Over 400 dollars was stolen from my sister's account. I agree with many of your comments they should have gone back to the checks at least until they could get this problem fixed. I believe that they should make it an option whether you want a check or whether you want the eppicard just like direct deposit options that you can get at a job.

It would be great to contact Eppicard but all you get is a computer, good luck to anyone who has a real concern.

Does anyone know why the Eppicard web page isn't working? Are you aware that if you call the 800 number on the card to check your balance there is a fee charged? For those of you who don't know what an Eppicard is, it is a debit type card that the states have set up to process child support payments saving them lots of money because they don't have to process paper checks and mail them. It was supposed to be an easier, safer way for us to receive our child support. Instead, it has apparently become a way for certain slimy individuals to steal money from our children. I really depend on the little amount of child support I do receive to help with my household expenses. I expect that my money would be safely handled by the company that processes these payments. Fortunately, I have not had any money stolen from my account yet. I would expect the government to investigate this crime and refund any money that was not transferred properly to the intended recipient.

My Claim was denied to refund my children's money of $4,813.23 with no reason/explanation. Yes, Eppicard is useless and do you know after they denied my claim they had the nerve to say to me "WELL YOUR NOT THE ONLY ONE" like this is suppose to make it all better. I hope that we can all come together and stand up and speak out concerning this terrible inhuman crime. Someone out there,Talkshow Host "ANYBODY" please help!!!!!!

I received several of these EPPI card notices and i've never heard of an Eppi card. Why doesn't yahoo and other e-mail sites do something about these obvious scams?

I am a victim from this scam. Eppicard has been helpless and has denied my dispute to refund my $363.00. I have called the number on the back of my card and they are useless. They gave me a fax number and I even sent a letter via fax to have someone contact me and still nothing. I am very frustrated. If anyone has a number or can be of help email me, PLEASE. Thanks a bunch. nesea_c@yahoo.com

We'll they got me. I was one of the mothers that relies on the money to make it thru the month and I panicked when they said my account was locked. The master card people should have had a fail safe so the person in chicago, ill could not have withdrawn all the money from my account at an atm machine 9 withdraws in a row. I smell a class action against MC they really messed up and now I have 1.57 to live off of for the month. What about all the others that really needed that money. I nearly fell to the ground when EPPICard said I will have to file a dispute and it could take 120 days. MC has to have insurance for that. Anyone in the gov please help us out the dept of justice is on it but if someone knew about it early May, the system should have been shut downand checks should have been mailed out till it was figured out. Thanks for reading this and I hope someone can help.

I don't even have a card and I've been getting the same emails. Never signed up for a EPPICard. And then you still have to be careful because they send they entire email as a link so no matter where you click a new page is going to open up to that site.

I just got this scam email too.. It's pretty obvious with the horrible paste job.. When you roll over the link to eppicard you get this address in the bottom bar: www.mysite.verizon.net/peggytomas/ab/index.html And most features do not work on the fake site

I get their scams and hundreds of others. I have reported dozens of these scams but they just keep coming. They come from all over the world so there seems to be no way to stop them. We need a better public awareness program.

I found out I was a victim just yesterday. I was taken for over $2000!!! I have never felt so violated. Please be cautious and do not fall for the scam as I did. I assummed it was legit and entered my information! The stripped me of everything and left me with only $11 when my balance was $2100! I have to wait upto 120 to get my money back. I still have bills that cant wait that long! I am so hurt!
