AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Your Thanksgiving meal could cost up to 13 percent more this year but there are some ways to cut costs.

News 12 created a menu that serves eight people and shopped at Publix and Sam's Club.

The menu included:
Turkey
Cranberry Sauce
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy
Green Bean Casserole
Pumpkin Pie

Publix total: $34.12
Sam's Club total: $69.17

Most of the items we choose were off brands, which tend to be lower in price. We also choose items that were featured on sale in both stores.

Publix items were exactly enough to feed eight people. Sam's Club's items were enough to feed 25, minus the turkey which would feed eight.

The turkey at Sam's Club was 99 cents a pound. Publix's was 59 cents a pound. The sides were about equal in price.

If you are buying for a large group, then a membership store like Sam's Club may be a good option. If your cooking for less than eight, then a grocery store may better.

Coupon cutting and stores with double deals can save money. Be sure to look through your local paper and online for deals.
