State Dept. starts Benghazi attack recommendations

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The State Department has begun to implement recommendations to improve security at U.S. diplomatic missions called for by an independent panel set up to investigate the Sept. 11 attack in Libya that killed a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.

An internal notice obtained by The Associated Press says a team of senior diplomats met on Tuesday to look at recommendations from the Accountability Review Board. It says the team will "continue meeting regularly to ensure execution of the board's recommendations." It adds that offices throughout the department should expect to receive orders from the team.

Implementation of the recommendations comes as a classified version of the report was being sent to Congress on Tuesday. An unclassified summary is to be made public on Wednesday.
