(CBS/AP) WASHINGTON - A U.S. defense official says an American military helicopter has crashed in southwestern Afghanistan with four U.S. troops aboard.

CBS News correspondent David Martin reports that bad weather is the likely cause for the crash.

There was no immediate word on casualties. The crash occurred near a military outpost so the site has been secured.

A U.S. defense official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said that the Black Hawk helicopter went down in the Regional Command-Southwest area, which includes the traditional Taliban stronghold of Helmand province.
