Customers, employees work to keep H1N1 out of gyms

News 12 This Morning, October 27, 2009

AUGUSTA---You've likely seen the spray bottles at the gym to wipe down equipment. Now customers say they are using them even more, to help prevent the spread of viruses.

We spoke with employees at several local fitness centers who say they have increased the amount of cleaning supplies they provide to customers, including bottles of spray for the machines and hand sanitizer.

Leaders with the Family Y in west Augusta say it is a constant effort among staff, trainers, and customers to keep the equipment clean. Managers say staff members make a 'cleaning sweep' before each shift--several times daily--over all handrails, equipment, counter tops, and other common surfaces.
