WAGENER, S.C. (WRDW) -- One teen is dead after a fatal car accident in Aiken County Saturday morning.
It happened on Coleman Bridge Road near Ott Dale Drive around 2 a.m. Ricky Marquez Hammonds, 19, was pronounced dead after the car he was riding in left the roadway and struck several trees.
Hammonds was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office. He died from a severe head injury.
The driver, 40-year-old Calvin Edwards, and the front seat passenger were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.
Deputies say the trio was traveling at a high rate of speed going south on Coleman Bridge Road.
Investigators say Edwards reported that he was not sure what caused the crash, but he believes it was due to a tire blowout.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is now investigating the crash along with the Aiken County Coroner's Office.
