Rain, road closure impacts family business

CLEARWATER, S.C. (WRDW) -- Wet weather this week is affecting a lot of people in the CSRA, including one family business.

"We've weathered ice storms, but this is the first time we've had to deal with rain. A lot, a lot of rain," said Jackie Foshee.

Foshee and her husband, Shawn, have owned and run Days of Fun Inflatables for the last four years.

Business has run smoothly out of their home in Clearwater until recently.

"With the road being washed out, it does make an inconvenience," Shawn said.

"My customers can't bring me their deposits," Jackie explained. "It's just made it difficult with the road being out."

Willow Lane has been shut down since Monday and with the Foshees preparing for a major event this weekend, it couldn't have come at a worse time.

"I'm having to tell my customers that are coming Friday to take detours," Jackie said.

The Foshees say stormy weather always impacts their business.

"If it rains, we could lose anywhere between $300 a day to $1,500 ... $3,000 a day," Shawn explained.

Now, they're planning to deal with this road closure for as long as they need to and with reports of sinkholes, downed trees and other weather damage, both are just grateful it wasn't any worse.

"I'm sure, seeing as how our road isn't one of the more major, heavily traveled roads, I'm sure it's probably going to be this way several months, I would imagine," Shawn said.

"It'll be OK," Jackie said. "The reason is because there's other roads that are a lot worse than this. And we will survive."

This road is closed for the rest of the week, and there is no word yet on just how long this particular road will be closed.
