AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Paine College is reissuing the call for a small road closure through campus.
Mayor Deke Copenhaver got behind the project to look at safety concerns along Druid Park from Laney Walker to Central Avenue.
School leaders want to close the road because of problems with cars zooming through stop signs, but the mayor is calling for a compromise.
"I think we need to look at all options," said Mayor Deke Copenhaver. "I think you could potentially do a traffic calming project but once again just more pedestrian-friendly campuses will bring more bright young minds to Augusta, Ga."
The college will take its formal request to the Augusta Commission next Monday.
