AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- One person is dead after an single-car accident on Morningside Drive around 1 a.m. Monday.
The victim has been identified by the coroner as 38-year-old Kathryne Gilmer of Augusta. Her body is at the Crime Lab undergoing an autopsy.
Investigators say an Isuzu Trooper was traveling eastbound when the driver, 43-year-old Michael Lindsey Johnston, was unable to keep the car in its lane and struck an oak tree off the roadway.
Gilmer was ejected and died at the scene.
Johnston was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and burns. He is said to be in critical condition.
Charges are pending against Johnston.
The Sheriff's Office STAR team is still investigating this accident.
