FORT GORDON, Ga. -- A man was struck and killed along Chamberlain Avenue at Fort Gordon Monday afternoon.
According to Fort Gordon officials, a specialist from Headquarters 15th Signal Brigade was driving his vehicle west on Chamberlain Avenue when the vehicle veered over the right side curb. It then went across the road to the left into oncoming traffic where it struck a vehicle traveling east. The vehicle then bounced off that vehicle and continued on Chamberlain Avenue. It left the road and crossed the sidewalk where the 62-year-old man was trying to get out of the path of the vehicle. The vehicle eventually came to a stop, striking a fence.
CPR was performed on the victim at the scene before he was taken to Eisenhower Army Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 3:20 p.m. by emergency room personnel.
The two soldiers in the vehicles are being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The entire incident is being investigated by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
The name of the victim has not been released at this time but they say he was a Department of the Army civilian employee.
