AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The man who threatened to jump off a bridge in Augusta Wednesday morning has been identified.
Sammy Detroy Richards, 36, was involved in a standoff on the Bobby Jones Expressway bridge over Deans Bridge Road for two and a half hours but eventually decided not to jump.
Traffic was at a complete halt while the standoff was going on.
Sheriff Richard Roundtree said he thinks a recent breakup led to this. Roundtree says there were signs Richards had injected some sort of narcotic and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
No charges will be filed for the standoff unless Richards has an outstanding warrant.
