UPDATE: Man killed while trying to cross Mike Padgett Highway

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Richmond County coroner says a man has died after being hit while trying to cross Mike Padgett Highway.

Dispatch confirms the accident happened at the intersection of Mike Padgett Highway and Old Waynesboro Road.

Brian Boings, 27, was pronounced dead at 6:55 p.m. The coroner says Boings had run out of gas and was trying to cross the street when he was hit.

One northbound and one southbound lane were shut down, but those lanes have now re-opened.

The accident happened around 6:20 p.m.

There is no word on whether or not the driver will face any charges.
