AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- The Aiken County Sheriff's Office has confirmed a male pedestrian was struck Thursday night.

The incident happened behind the Haven Apartments on Macbean Loop around 7:30 p.m.

Witnesses told authorities that they saw the man on the hood of the Ford Focus the female suspect was driving before he fell off into the roadway.

According to the incident report, the suspect says she and the pedestrian got into an argument. She claims she left the home, and the man followed her, jumping on the car. When this happened, the driver says she accelerated and braked at least three times before the man fell off the car, according to the incident report.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the male lying unresponsive in the road but say the driver returned to the incident location shortly after.

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital. His condition is unknown.

The Sheriff's Office says preliminary evidence indicates the incident "was part of a domestic disturbance."
