AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Charges have been filed in a deadly accident earlier this week on Mike Padgett Highway.
23-year-old Kiara Brown was charged with failure to yield and misdemeanor homicide by vehicle. The vehicular homicide charge is only considered a felony if a contributing factor such as DUI or speeding is involved. Original reports at the Richmond County Sheriff's Office indicated she was charged with feticide, but authorities say this is not the case.
The Coroner's Office says the victim, 54-year-old Barbara Ann Godbee, was a passenger in a BMW that pulled in front of a pickup truck. Godbee was pronounced dead at the hospital at 8:58 a.m.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
