AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A woman is dead after the car she was driving hit a telephone pole on Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose has identified the driver as 43-year-old Melanie Wallace of Augusta.
The Sheriff's Office says Wallace lost control while heading westbound on the 2300 block of Ruby Drive, leaving the roadway and hitting a telephone pole.
Wallace was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday in Newberry, S.C.
