VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) -- Motorists in South Georgia are being warned to look out for roads obscured by smoke from a wildfire burning in northern Florida.

The Georgia Department of Transportation says smoke from the large fire is expected to push into parts of southern Georgia through this weekend. Officials say the smoke could seriously impair visibility on roadways in the Valdosta area and surrounding counties.

Firefighters are battling a wildfire that's consumed at least 39 square miles near the Baker-Columbia County line in north Florida. The fire is producing a large amount of smoke.

DOT officials say road conditions in south Georgia could be particularly hazardous early in the mornings when smoke can mix with fog.
