Victim identified in fatal accident on Mike Padgett Highway

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Traffic was backed up on Mike Padgett Highway Thursday afternoon while crews worked a fatal accident.
Investigators say 42-year-old Toni Erkens of Augusta was driving southbound on Mike Padgett Highway when she tried turning left onto Bennock Mill Road, crossing into the path of a GMC Sierra.
Erkens was declared dead at the scene. She was wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident.
The driver of the other car, Georgia Department of National Resources employee 31-year-old Seth Thompson, was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries. Thompson was driving a pickup truck owned by Georgia DNR.
