AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A man is dead after getting struck early Friday morning on the 3500 block of Peach Orchard Road.

Richmond County Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose has identified the victim as 33-year-old Robert Donald Holden Jr. of Hephzibah.

Investigators say Holden was hit from behind while riding his bicycle in the middle of the southbound right lane around 1 a.m.

Deputies say the driver of an Oldsmobile was unable to see Holden until it was too late and was unable to stop. They say Holden was found to be at fault in the accident for failing to ride on the right side of the roadway.

According to the supplemental report, "The site where the collision occurred was not lighted and coupled with the lack of lights or appropriate reflective gear on the bicycle would have contributed to the causation of the collision."

Holden was pronounced dead at the scene. Boose says the cause of death is blunt force trauma. No autopsy will be performed.
