AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A man has been charged for the fatal accident on Doug Barnard Parkway Tuesday evening.
Lt. Randy Prickett with Richmond County Sheriff's Office says the driver of the tractor trailer, Bernard Middleton, of Jacksonville, Fla., has been charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree and failing to yield to a stop sign.
Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen says the victim, 32-year-old Glenn Richard Cliett Jr., of Aiken, was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday evening.
He says Cliett was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer northbound on Mike Padgett Highway when a tractor trailer truck pulled in front of Cliett as the tractor trailer attempted to turn left from Doug Barnard Parkway to go southbound on Mike Padgett Highway. Cliett's vehicle slid under the tanker trailer, trapping and killing him instantly.
Cliett was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
He will be transported to the GBI Augusta Lab for an autopsy, which will be done either Wednesday afternoon or Thursday.
