AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A late afternoon accident on Deans Bridge Road at Willis Foreman Road has turned deadly.

Investigators say the driver of a tractor trailer died from his injuries around 7:30 p.m. The Richmond County coroner says Fred Buckson was driving the tractor trailer when he collided with a Chevrolet Cavalier trying to turn onto Willis Foreman Road. While trying to avoid hitting the Chevrolet head on, the tractor ended up rolling over.

The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet were airlifted to the hospital.

It took crews approximately two and a half hours to get Buckson out of the trailer. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Charges are pending against the driver of the Cavalier after the driver allegedly pulled out in front of the trailer.

All lanes of Deans Bridge Road were closed for at least three hours.
