August 24, 2007

AUGUSTA, Ga.---A Thomson man was sent to the hospital after his car ran into the logs on a logging truck on Bobby Jones Expressway this morning at 6:25 am.

At around 6:25, 66-year-old George Edwards was driving a 1999 Ford Taurus eastbound on Bobby Jones. He was between the Milledgeville Road and Glenn Hills Drive overpasses when he ran into the logs on the back of a truck headed the same direction.

The truck was operating legally, with flags and lights on the logs.

Edwards was life-flighted to MCG. He was listed as critical with head injuries.

The driver of the truck was 44-year-old Jeffrey Bessinger of Lincolnton.

Bobby Jones near Mike Padgett Highway was down to one lane and traffic was backed up.

I trully think that the driver of the log truck didn't have the proper lighage on the truck. Because if it did there would have been broken peices of the light in the car. We serced the car up and down for a piece of that light but we never found a piece. We think that the truck driver pulled off the ramp in front of him withouta light on his logs and he ran into them. Plus the logs on that truck were to long b/c they went through the car and another car could have came into it to. Plus my papa he was one of the safest drivers i have ever seen. But he is doing okay now he is at the house but i can tell u one thing it has realy messed his life up. That is all i wanted to get off my chest. And have a good day.
