GRANITEVILLE, S.C.---A man is dead after a fiery collision on I-20 early this morning.

40-year-old Gary M. McLeod, Jr. of Cades, South Carolina was the driver of a 2005 Ford F-150 traveling east on I-20. Investigators say he was either moving at a low rate of speed or was stopped in the right lane when an 18-wheeler driven by Scott Carbaugh of Hixson, Tennessee rammed into him.

Both vehicles burst into flames shortly after impact.

Mr. Carbaugh and his passenger, Gary Reeves of East Ridge, Tennessee, were both uninjured.

Mr. McLeod was pronounced dead at the scene. The autopsy showed he died of blunt force trauma to the chest.

Due to the circumstances, the collision is being investigated by the Aiken County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

This was the 16th fatality in Aiken County for 2007.
